About the GoPro Hero 7 BlackThe GoPro Hero 7 Black from GoPro Inc. Is a compact digital camera used for action sports & travel photography released in 2018.
It also brings several other new features, including improved audio, live-streaming to sites like Facebook, and a fancy new timelapse mode called ‘TimeWarp’.The new Hero 7 Silver is a stripped down version of this flagship model, with a maximum of 4K/30fps recording and very similar specs to GoPro’s older. And lastly, GoPro’s Hero 7 White is its new entry-level mode, replacing the relatively new with a ceiling of 1080p video recording. Here’s everything you need to know about the Hero 7 Black and its new siblings. To find out our final verdict head to our fullRelated: GoPro Hero 7 Black price and release date: when can you buy a GoPro Hero 7?You can buy the Hero 7 Black today for £379 with a free 64GB microSD card. That’s actually £20 less than the outgoing Hero 6 Black cost, and significantly less than the latter’s original asking price of £499.The pricing for its cheaper siblings is also pretty keen, with the Hero 7 Silver costing £279 and the Hero 7 White only £179, which puts it at £20 less than the two-year-old Hero 5 Session and makes it one of the most affordable GoPro cameras ever.GoPro told us that it’s “putting a stop on the production of previous models”, which means the end of the Hero 6 Black, Hero 5 Black and the Hero (2018). It did also add that “for a while there might still be some retail inventory of previous cameras”, so if you’re interested in an older model it’s worth keeping an eye out for special offers.
GoPro Hero 7 Black design and features: what does the GoPro Hero 7 Black look like and what features does it have?As you can see, the Hero 7 Black looks largely identical to its predecessor from the outside. In hardware terms, the only real differences are its new black paint job and a redesigned microphone membrane, which helps provide more natural bass tones and brighter mids. There are around five other new features, though, compared to the Hero 6 Black.
The biggest one is what GoPro is calling ‘HyperSmooth’ stabilisation, which is a souped up version of the electronic image stabilisation we saw on its previous flagship and now works in its 4K/60fps mode. This is still digital rather than optical stabilisation, though GoPro reckons it’ll let you capture gimbal-like video “without the expense of hassle of a motorised gimbal”. Like its own Karma Grip. Related:Related to HyperSmooth is a new timelapse mode called TimeWarp.
This is similar to a standard timelapse, where the camera takes still photos at regular intervals then plays them back to give the impression of a scene being played in fast-forward. Only this time it adds smooth stabilisation to let you create first-person “magic carpet rides” through journeys like bike rides. The Hero 7 Black is also the first GoPro that can livestream. You’ll initially be able to do this to sites like Facebook, Twitch, YouTube and Vimeo, with the promise of other native platforms to come.
The final two changes are a new ‘SuperPhoto’ feature for stills and a refreshed UI. ‘SuperPhoto’ is GoPro’s attempt to replicate the intelligent auto modes seen on smartphones like the, which can automatically recognise scenes and apply the right camera settings. In addition to recognising scenes, GoPro says the Hero 7 Black will be able detect faces and smiles, an ability that’ll also help it pick the right clips for its automated QuikStories edit, which are available in its Quik app.The UI tweaks are relatively minor, but include a new ‘short clips’ button for limiting the length of recordings to 15 or 30 seconds (in case you want to pass the camera round to others without the fear of filling up your memory card) and some redesigned menus based on data GoPro’s collected about how people use its cameras. Aside from these new features, the Hero 7 Black’s specs are largely unchanged from its predecessor.
The GoPro Hero 7 Black, Silver and White cameras will be announced on September 20th (shipping will start on September 28th).

Well I think it’s pretty clear just from looking at the specs that the GoPro Hero 7 Black is the most advanced and capable camera of the three. It can shoot 4K video at 60fps, create super slow motion video up to 240fps and features GoPro’s new stabilization software, Hypersmooth.
Check out an example of what this software can do. So for anyone who wants to shoot some serious action footage it might be worth investing in the Black version of the Hero 7. The other versions also have some more basic stabilization software but notwhere near as good as the Hero 7 Black. Video QualityBoth the Hero 7 Black and Hero 7 Silver can shoot 4K resolution video which is pretty much the gold standard for high quality video. The main difference between the two is that the Silver is limited to 4K at 30fps whereas the Black can shoot 4K at 60fps, allowing you to create smoother looking video or even slow motion.
The quality of the video is fantastic in both cameras, with excellent dynamic range, color contrast and light. Here’s a real life example of someone shooting in 4K using the Hero 7:I think the quality is pretty stunning and those who are more familiar with color correction and editing may even be able to get even higher quality if using the Protune setting available on the Hero 7 Black. The White version of the Hero 7 is limited to just 1080 at 60fps, which doesn’t really cut it these days as far as I’m concerned.Slow MotionOne of the best new features of the Hero 7 Black is its ability to shoot super slow motion video.

At 4K the Black version can shoot 60fps and if you are willing to sacrifice some quality you can go all the way up to 240fps at 1080p.Slow Motion Examples:The ability to shoot at 240fps at HD resolution is revolutionary for GoPro, and it allows you to create some stunning video as we can see. The Silver and White versions of the Hero 7 don’t have the same prowess when it comes to slow motion, and in both cases you can only slow down the video 2x compared with 8x that the Black is capable of. Other FeaturesLivestream: The Hero 7 Black is the only version that allows you to livestream. This is accomplished over the app and can connect straight to Facebook or YouTube’s livestreaming service.GPS: Another key feature for true adventurers is GPS and the Black version of the Hero 7 is the only one with internal GPS.Battery: Again, the Hero 7 Black is the only version with a removable battery, meaning you can have spares ready in case you run out half way through your day of shooting. Overview and ConclusionI think it’s pretty clear which camera is technically superior and which one I personally prefer.
I do think that if you are going to get a GoPro camera, you might aswell get the best one. The Hero 7 Black has so many new features that it’s a real upgrade from the last Hero 6. Hypersmooth stabilization and super slow motion are both awesome new features which are missing from the Silver and White versions of the Hero 7 series. The Silver version could be a decent alternative for people really not interested in stabilization or slow motion, perhaps for filming vacations or family activities rather than action shots. Still, it seems a shame to miss out of the new innovations for the sake of $100. The White version of the camera seems pretty pointless to me.

Sure, it’s much cheaper, but you can get even cheaper non-GoPro action cameras that can shoot higher resolution video for a lower price.Even though it’s the most expensive, the Hero Black 7 is by far the best version of this camera and has pretty much all the new innovations GoPro has come up with since last year. Still, if you are looking for cheaper options then the Silver and White versions are available to you. Where to BuyAll versions of the GoPro Hero 7 are available on Amazon.
